How To Keep A Clean Workplace
Whether you’re working from home or heading back into the office, there’s no doubt that your work space could use a deep clean! Even though you might be thinking, “Hey, I’m the only person that uses my devices and desk, it can’t possibly be that dirty!”, well we’ve got some news for you.
Despite being the only person in your workspace, your devices are one of the most used items throughout your day. Not to mention when you’re eating while working or that random sneeze sneaks up on you. Your computer keyboard is a hub for bacteria between the many keys and all their crevices. A keyboard statistically is 20,000 times dirtier than a toilet seat! Meanwhile a phone is 9,000 times dirtier than a toilet seat, a computer mouse is 45,000 times dirtier than a toilet handle, and a computer trackpad is 160 times dirtier than money.
So let’s show your office space a little tlc and get it back on track! Look at our checklist below for a clean and germ-free work day.
You’ll want to power down your devices and be sure to avoid using liquids like water or bleach. To start the cleaning process, give your device a simple wipe down and dust with a cloth. Microfiber cloths are great for collecting excess dust and build up while being gentle! To get in between those pesky keys, you can use a compressed air can. After that, use sanitizing wipes with at least 70% alcohol to rid it of bacteria. Wipe in a circular motion and let dry for at least 30 seconds.
Clean and sanitize surfaces
Your workspace is filled with surfaces that are constantly touched! Your computer takes a little extra care, but for your desk, phone, pens, and other daily items, be sure to use sanitizing wipes to keep them germ-free.
This may sound obvious, but keeping your hands clean throughout the day greatly impacts that bacteria you carry over into your workspace. Give a thorough scrub after you use the bathroom, eat, or venture anywhere else. The CDC recommends washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Don’t forget to get in between your fingers!
Keep people in your workspace limited
If you’re back in the office, make sure to keep a limit on how much other people come into your space. With social distancing being the norm right now, it’s best to minimize exposure for others and yourself. If you have to share something, be sure to give it a quick wipe down before and after use to protect all parties.
Get on a schedule!
We recommend sanitizing your computer at least weekly and other easy to clean surfaces daily. It’s best to finish off your day with cleaning your space with sanitizing wipes but if you want to be extra mindful, you can take a mid-day break to wipe down those surfaces too (especially if you just crammed in a working lunch!).
Keep cleaning supplies in your workspace
What and when to sanitize has become such a common thought now. If you ever find yourself questioning it, it’s best to practice proper sanitation and hygiene! To make it easy, keep a stash of cleaning supplies in your office or desk. That way it’s not only accessible, but will make it more likely for you to establish a cleaning schedule. Our Clean Buddies hand sanitizing wipes are great because they are individually wrapped and ready to go!
No matter where or how you’re working, we hope you’ll find this checklist helpful to keep you, your colleagues, and loved ones safe and healthy!
